You will find on your screen the second ODAVS Newsletter, and I am so surprised no one mentioned
the name (or lack of one) for our newsletter. Please be thinking of some ideas so we can change it from the
Thingie... unless you like calling it the Thingie.

our previous meeting

A Note from President Julie
Well, the summer is nearly over and school has begun! I hope you all
had a great couple of months and got to do some fun things with your families or catch up on some projects like I did.
We are looking forward to a busy fall now with MAAVS coming up. I'd like to remind everyone to be thinking of an item
for the Ways and Means table that we are responsible for during MAAVS. If we all contributed just one nice item we could
have some great raffles! This Saturday we will be doing an "Organization" meeting--getting ourselves set for the coming
year, discussing the officer and chair responsibilities and possibly working on the MAAVS table favors if we have the supplies.
I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday!
Don’t forget the ODAVS Online Store!
Hey everyone, be sure to check out our very own store at cafepress.com !
We have ODAVS t-shirts among other violet-related items and every purchase makes a small profit for the club. There
are several clothing items as well as some things that would make great gifts. New items will be added occasionally
so come back often. You’ll find the new store at http://www.cafepress.com/odavs !
MAAVS Ways and Means Committee
As Julie mentioned in her letter, be thinking about something to add to the raffle! We all
have talents.

At Our Previous Meeting…..
* Topics for next year's meetings will be dicussed next month. Some suggestions were growing mediums, grooming
and fertilizers.
* September meeting - we will be making table favors ("book thongs") for the MASVS Ways & Means
table. Laurene said she would place an order for the glass beads and elastic cord soon, so we would have everything ready
for next month. We will need about 100 favors made up.
* Anyone with items to sell or raffle at MAAVS should report to Pat. A sign up sheet will be put out in
October. Julie has already volunteered to make an afghan.
* Donna submitted an ad for the Washington Post Home special, which will be out September 9th. Our October
meeting is advertised as a workshop, where potential new members can come learn about our club and violet growing.
When
wicking African Violets, make sure you use a synthetic material. Cotton will
rot. Some types of wicking include mason's twine, yarn, and panty hose cut in
strips.
