A Note from President Julie

Next week will be exciting and busy for us as we attend the MAAVS convention!  So far we only have 5 items committed for the Ways and Means table and we need more!  Please, everyone, we need at least one item from everyone to make the table look great for MAAVS.  If you haven't already, be sure to think of something you can contribute for this Saturday's meeting.  If you aren't crafty, perhaps you know of a shop you could ask for a donation in return for advertising on a card on the table.  I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!

At Our Previous Meeting…..

Our previous meeting was a workshop for our members and a chance to exchange leaves.

All the members who were present came with leaves and potting equipment in tow. We had a guest who brought her own violet with a question about its long neck. She left with newly potted up leaves and a neckless violet!

Everyone was generous with leaves and no one left empty handed.  This workshop was a lot of fun and members expressed interest in continuing this type of meeting.

A suggestion was made to bring our lists of violets to our meetings to see if anyone wants leaves from one of our plants.

  AV TIPS

AVSA offers a program called First Class 2 that makes a great tool for keeping track of your violets. It also has some of the most beautiful pictures of African Violets in existence! But wait! There’s more! It can also print labels for your pots! They are perfect for those plants we sell at the plant sale.  Here is the information found at the AVSA web site (avsa.org):

First Class Version 2 Computer Program

The African Violet Society of America, Inc.

First Class is a Windows®-based computer program that allows you to quickly and accurately look up species and cultivar names and descriptions found in the Master List of Species and Cultivars. Includes over 2,000 photos.

First Class Version 2 is distributed on CD. It requires Microsoft Windows® 95 or later and 40MB of hard disk space.

     AVSA Price: Members:  $25.00, Non-members $37.00

If your violet-challenged friends/family wanted to get you a really cool Christmas gift, you could mention this because it is definitely a gift that keeps on giving!
