We can all breath a sigh of relief as MAAVS has passed and was a huge success. Our club helped to make it a success with many of our members contributing their items and/or volunteering their time to cover the Ways and Means Table and Laurene’s contribution of her time and materials to help make the registration run so smoothly. We should all give our club a big round of applause.

THE NEXT MEETING WILL NOT BE THE FIRST SATURDAY OF DECEMBER. IT WILL BE ON THE 11TH, COMBINED WITH THE HOLIDAY PARTY BEING HOSTED BY MARY.  MORE DETAILS INSIDE.

A Note from President Julie

Well, MAAVS was a great success and such a fun time for those of us who were able to be there!  Getting to know the people involved in MAAVS was probably the best part for me.  Next year the convention is in Richmond and I plan to be in contact with the host cub and volunteer us to be involved again. It was such a great experience meeting the growers--and many people from the AVSA as well.

Next week is our Christmas party and it should be a great time!  Don't forget to bring some packets of leaves or starter plants, if you can, for prizes for the games.  We'll have good food, and fun and lots of good conversation.  If you want to be involved in the gift exchange, the limit is $10--everyone who brings a gift will get to take one home.  See you there!

  ANNOUNCEMENTS

December Holiday Get-Together

As discussed at our last meeting, our club’s December meeting/annual holiday party will be at Mary’s house, Saturday December 11th from 12-3 (Directions below). We will be doing a gift exchange and games. If you would like to participate in the gift exchange, please bring a wrapped present ($10 limit). Everyone who brings a gift can take a gift. We are also planning some fun GAMES! If you can, please bring leaves, baby plants, or supplies that can be used for prizes.

Bring a List of Violets You Are Growing

It would be fun to see what the other members are growing. Try to make a list of what you are growing and bring it to the next meeting. This would be a good way for many people to find some cherished violets they thought they would never find!

Our May Club Sale

We need for every member to grow around 15 plants and have them blooming for our May Sale.

Don’t forget the ODAVS Online Store!

Hey everyone, be sure to check out our very own store at cafepress.com !  We have ODAVS t-shirts among other violet-related items and every purchase makes a small profit for the club.  There are several clothing items as well as some things that would make great gifts.  New items will be added occasionally so come back often.  You’ll find the new store at http://www.cafepress.com/odavs !

At Our Previous Meeting…..

Our previous meeting was a planning meeting for the upcoming MAAVS convention. Since I wasn’t there, I don’t have the notes, but Michelle has them and I will include them in the next newsletter.

  AV TIPS

This tip comes from Mary Mostafa and what a timely one it is! ISOLATE, ISOLATE, ISOLATE!!!  Be sure that you isolate any new plant material, including leaves, for at least three months. And before you add them to your main collection remember to check them over carefully one last time.
